Saddened to hear today that Bill Sheldon, owner of McGavin's Bakery has passed away. Growing up in Bremerton there was only one place everyone wanted a birthday cake from - McGavin's Bakery - and it had to be their Pink Champaign cake. The last time I was there I met a woman from Portland Oregon, who had grown up in Bremerton as well. She was driving down from a trip to Vancouver Canada and picking up a Pink Champaign sheet cake for her husband's birthday. She told me that when she retired from her job in Olympia her boss had driven to pick up a Pink Champagne cake for the party. Because of the previous 20 years they had been hearing about growing up in Btown and everyone wanting a Pink Champaign cake. She said it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her.

Note to Self: The purpose of the heart is to expand and contract.
"The fundamental purpose of the heart is to expand and contract"
Sometimes words enter your world to exist for both the highs and the lows. This phrase surfaced when I was heartbroken from my first love. My heart needed to contract and there was no timeline for that. At the same moment I was told I would never love as fully as my first because I would be guarded knowing my past ache. This felt limiting - to prove it false I chose to defiantly love my future partners more and more. To expand.
While running can strengthen your lungs, loving can strengthen your heart.
When my heart stops beating I hope that it is larger than ever before, that it's capacity grows with each breath and feels as full as it feels empty throughout it's lifespan. That it did what was necessary for survival and it did more than it thought it was capable of for love.

Kristin Zwiers
Sometimes, the more simple you go, the better it is. I love this card and stationary set for the photographer Kristin Zwiers for that reason. We've kept the design clean so there is room for her own style to come through. It is like her camera. It is the tool for her creativity, and with it, she will make beautiful things. Stationary as a tool. I've never thought of it like that before and I like it.

Dawn and Jay are two lovely and talented people. Their love of art and music is so much a part of their invitation. Jay wrote the text on the Outer Envelope and Dawn for the Attire Card, and they are beautiful poems. Having the opportunity to collaborate with people who make a great team is one of the best parts of my job. Watching two people be kind and gentle with each other are simple moments that mean the most.
